Our approach

Welcome to Evidence-Based Chiropractic

Did you know that there are guidelines and protocols that chiropractic offices are supposed to follow? Our office lines up with recommendations from the American Chiropractic Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American College of Radiology when it comes to your musculoskeletal care.

One of the biggest differences you’ll notice about our practice is that we are upfront and honest about what we can and cannot help you with. This means that we’ll make sure you’re being co-managed by all of the right providers in all specialties.

Pain science has changed a lot in the last few years across all of healthcare, and we make a point of sharing what we know so you understand your pain and can truly overcome it.

What to expect

Your first visit, start to finish

How long it takes, when treatment starts, and how we check that it is working.

  1. A full office visit.

Your first visit will be roughly 45-60 minutes in duration and involve the following: full medical history, orthopedic & neurologic evaluation, review of imaging (when appropriate), additional referrals & co-management (when needed), and your first homework: lifestyle changes, rehab exercises and pain education to start at home.

  2. Treatment on the same day

Almost always, we are able to treat on the first visit. If we find any red flags during your examination or another need for a referral prior to treatment, we will let you know and schedule accordingly.

  3. Quick Results

Most new patients will notice improvement within 2-4 visits or 1-2 weeks. Every patient’s plan is different, but you can generally expect around 6-10 visits as part of your “active care” initially. Every 1-2 weeks, we’ll check in on your symptoms and goals, then add or remove visits based on your progress.

Services and treatments

What we actually do

Spinal Manipulation

There are so many different techniques within the world of spinal manipulation. We offer the full manual style of treatment along with some other options for light-to medium pressure that are available upon request or chosen based on the examination and medical history. We always tailor treatment styles based on patient preference and what gets people better the fastest!

Main techniques offered

  • Diversified/Gonstead manual
  • Thompson drop table
  • Activator (instrument-based)
  • Active Release Technique
  • Mobilization

Physical Rehabilitation

Nearly all of our new patients are provided with stretches, exercise recommendations, mobility exercises, and strength training related to their chief complaint(s) to help educate them on how to get stronger and self-manage their aches & pains at home!

If additional rehab is necessary, we will connect you with a trusted physical therapist in our area!

Medical Co-Management

After you become a new patient, we reach out to your Primary Care Provider to let them know our plan, how you’re doing, and how you respond to treatment. We believe in having healthcare teams working together for your benefit!

For medical providers

Are you a provider who wants to work with us? Send a patient through our secure referral form. You keep the patient; we take the musculoskeletal episode and send you the initial visit and discharge notes.

Soft Tissue Therapies & Medical Massage

Our massage therapist, Rich Lamb, LMT, focuses on sports and medical massage with a ligament and trigger-point emphasis rather than a traditional deep-tissue massage, though he offers a variation of that too. Sessions are 25, 55 or 85 minutes, with longer sessions available on request, and are booked through the same online scheduler as chiropractic visits. If nothing there works for you, call or text us.

“Highly recommend getting a massage from Rich! He’s both knowledgeable and thoughtful, truly honed in on his craft of providing a relaxing massage. After his massage I noticed that I had full range of motion restored to my neck and the tension in my body had faded away. If you’re looking to treat yourself to a wonderful massage by a wonderful human then definitely book with Rich!”

A referring provider’s review

“I am a physical therapist in the area and have been referring patients to Rebecca and her team for years! Rebecca, Noah, and John are the best in the business when it comes to chiropractic care. They use evidence based treatment approaches, consider the whole body, and do a great job educating patients on how to keep themselves pain free. I highly recommend them!”

Who we see

Who these treatments are for

These are the situations you are most likely coming in with. Every one of them starts with the same first visit — full history, orthopedic and neurologic exam, imaging reviewed when it is appropriate — and then draws on the treatments above: spinal manipulation, rehabilitation, massage, and co-management with your other providers. What changes is which of them your plan uses.

Chronic Pain

Pain that has been around for months or years starts the same way everything else here does: a full medical history, an orthopedic and neurologic evaluation, and a review of imaging when it is appropriate. If what we find is not ours to treat, we say so and point you to the provider it belongs with.

“I love Dr Rebecca, she has helped me so much, I had chronic pain for 7 years, had very little range of motion, after seeing her for few times my pain is gone and I have amazing range of motion.”

Sports & Athletic Injuries

A first visit runs 45-60 minutes, so the medical history has room for how you train and what sets the problem off. Plans usually pair hands-on treatment with stretches, exercises and weight training modifications you do between visits — and if you need more rehab than we provide, we will connect you with a trusted physical therapist in our area.

“Noah is great to work with. Personable and knowledgeable. I’m training for the 2024 Grand Rapids Marathon and I was experiencing some pain and inflexibility that was starting to affect my runs. Noah listened and quickly identified the problem area. In addition to the targeted manipulation I found his recommended strengthening exercises very helpful in creating balance and stability - quickly. 10/10 highly recommend. Oh, and the online sign up was a breeze.”

Prenatal & Postnatal Care

Patients see us through pregnancy and after it. Treatment style is chosen with you rather than for you: alongside full manual technique there are light to medium force options — drop table, activator — available on request or chosen from the examination and medical history.

“So glad I found this place. They were able to accommodate me through my pregnancy with my back and hip pain. Definitely made a difference!”

Pediatric Care

Families often bring their children in alongside their own care. Every patient gets the same full medical history and orthopedic and neurologic evaluation first, and the same rule applies afterwards: if it is not something we should be treating, we refer.

“We love Westside Chiropractic! Dr. Deyo again helped both my kids with issues in their feet. She was did a thorough exam and even adjusted their feet! Thank you again.”
