For referring clinicians

A chiropractic referral source you can trust

Most healthcare providers actually want to refer their patients to chiropractors. The barrier is knowing when and where to send them! Welcome to the answer to that problem.

You keep the patient. We take the musculoskeletal episode, send you the initial visit and discharge notes, and finish.

Scope

What we treat, and what we send on

Musculoskeletal complaints. Your patient gets a true orthopedic and neurologic exam, guideline-based treatment for what that exam finds, and a referral onward for what is not ours to treat.

Guidelines we work to

Did you know that there are guidelines and protocols that chiropractic offices are supposed to follow? Our office lines up with recommendations from the American Chiropractic Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American College of Radiology when it comes to your musculoskeletal care.

Red flags stop treatment

Almost always, we are able to treat on the first visit. If we find any red flags during the examination or another need for a referral prior to treatment, we will let you know and schedule accordingly.

Where we send patients

One of the biggest differences you’ll notice about our practice is that we are upfront and honest about what we can and cannot help you with. If your patient needs someone else, we say so and make sure they are co-managed by the right providers.

If additional rehab is necessary, we will connect you with a physical therapist in our area. We keep a list of the providers we refer to ourselves, and it is yours to use too: chiropractic, physical therapy, pelvic floor physical therapy, mental health, and more.

What we see most

Named complaints and the care contexts around them — Chronic Pain, Sports & Athletic Injuries, Prenatal & Postnatal Care and Pediatric Care — each linking to its own page: what the exam looks for, and what care usually involves.

The episode

What happens to a patient you send us

First visit
Roughly 45-60 minutes: full medical history, orthopedic & neurologic evaluation, review of imaging (when appropriate), additional referrals & co-management (when needed), and your first homework: lifestyle changes, rehab exercises and pain education to start at home.
Time to first appointment
It varies by provider and by season, so we do not publish a single figure. If your patient cannot find a time that works, they can text us at (616) 747-8462 and we will do our best to fit them in. If we cannot, we refer them on rather than holding them.
Typical course of care
Most new patients will notice improvement within 2-4 visits or 1-2 weeks. Generally around 6-10 visits of active care, with progress checked every 1-2 weeks to determine next steps.
Discharge
6-12 visits maximum for most new patients. There are no open-ended plans: discharge notes close the episode.
What you receive
Initial visit notes after the first appointment — diagnoses, treatment approach, duration of active care, next steps — then last visit notes with discharge information and response to care.
Coverage
We are currently in network with all major medical health insurance plans — 21 listed, including Medicaid, Medicare, auto injury, workman’s comp and personal injury.
Cost to the patient
We verify estimated insurance benefits and cost of care and send them to the patient before the first appointment, so nobody arrives without knowing what it costs.

None of it is specific to referred patients — they enter the same schedule as everyone else.

They leave with work to do

Nearly all of our new patients are provided with stretches, exercise recommendations, mobility exercises, and strength training related to their chief complaint(s) to help educate them on how to get stronger and self-manage their aches & pains at home!

Seamless process

How it works

Four steps. Steps 03 and 04 are the part you are being asked to rely on: you hear from us after the evaluation, and again when the episode closes.

If your office needs those notes a particular way — direct fax back, secure message, a named recipient — say so when you refer and we’ll confirm.

  1. Refer a patient

Send over the patient information via fax (616) 841-9693 or use our secure online referral form (found on this page).

  2. We’ll Schedule the patient!

Using the information you provided, we will contact the prospective patient to schedule their initial office visit and send them their estimated insurance benefits & cost prior to their scheduled appointment.

  3. Start of Care

After the patient’s first office visit, we will send you their initial visit notes to let you know diagnoses, treatment approach, duration of active care, and next steps.

  4. Discharge of care

If anything important comes up during their active care, we will inform you. At the end of their treatment (6-12 visits maximum for most new patients), you will receive their last visit notes with discharge information and response to care.

Who you would be working with

Referrals come to us, not to one doctor

We are three chiropractors, and referrals reach all of us: Dr. Rebecca Deyo, Dr. John Deyo and Dr. Noah Steinhauer.

Send the referral to us; we will match the patient to whoever fits their schedule and complaint.

Dr. Rebecca is one of ten chiropractors in her family, but her own path started in the hospital. She completed her clinical training at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, and that experience shapes how Westside works: care that is evidence-based and coordinated with your medical team.

Massage is a separate discipline here, not a chiropractic appointment: Rich Lamb, LMT is our licensed massage therapist and focuses on sports and medical massage with a ligament and trigger-point emphasis, in 25, 55 or 85 minute sessions with longer sessions available on request.

Before you refer

Ask us anything first

Whether we are the right place for a particular patient, what we would do with them, how the notes come back, whether we take a plan you are looking at, arranging a visit or a conversation between clinicians — all of it reaches us, and we answer it.

Please do not put patient information in this form. It is for questions, not for referring a patient. Patient details go by the referral form, the fax or the email address above.

Two documents sit behind that: the privacy policy, which covers what we do with anything typed into the form, and the electronic messaging consent page, which covers what we send a patient by text and email once they are on the schedule.
